Buxton CC’s Mountain Time Trial is Round 2 of the Merlin Cycles Classic Series, and is to be held on Good Friday, with the Start, Finish and HQ in Longnor.
With a field of 111 solo riders and a tandem, competition will be intense. HUUB WattShop bring a strong team, comprising course record holder John Archibald and teammates Will & James Lowden. They won’t have it all their own way though, as male winners from the last two years, Andy Nichols (Team Lifting Gear Products) and David Fellows (Solihull CC), also ride. The women’s field is headed by Kelly Murphy, AWOL O’Shea Worx, triple national Irish time trial champion and team & individual pursuit specialist. Ten paracyclists will compete on factored time, whilst 8 juveniles and juniors will take on the testing course. The bulk of the field compete on road bikes, with names including multiple Tour of the Peak winner Mark Lovatt (Congleton CC – MyWindsock) and former national hill climb champion Adam Kenway (Team Brother UK). From Buxton CC – Sett Valley Cycles; Tracy Gregory, Liz Batt, Will Mallard, Josh Thorpe and Chris Baines are riding. In what is probably a first for the event, Stirling Bike Club’s Jenny Holl pilots a tandem stoked by Sophie Unwin. Full startsheet: CTT Classic Series Round 2 Start SheetV1-as issued.
In addition to CTT’s prizes, Buxton CC provide £880 in prizes across all categories of rider, plus special on-the-day prizes provided by Sett Valley Cycles.
The event has again been sponsored by Hotel Milano Helvetia, Riccione in Italy (www.hotelmilano.net), one of the area’s famous “Bike Hotels”, offering a 10% reduction on the cost of their stay (excluding extras like bike hire and bar bills, of course) to ALL ENTRANTS to the event. In addition, the hotel is offering prizes of 2 five day stays at the hotel on their “Plus” package for cyclists, one for the winner of the Men’s/Espoirs’ in the 3-lap event and one for the winning woman in the 2-lap Women and Veteran’s event.
The event takes place with the support of CTT’s Stewart Smith and Sue Bowler, with St Bartholomew’s primary school kindly allowing use of their premises as the HQ.
