Club Rides and Training

Buxton Cycling Club runs a variety of club road rides to suit all levels of cycling ability. Most rides feature a café or pub stop, but will run at different paces to suit individual riders’ needs. Rides are posted as events on our Facebook site and if you are unsure which ride may suit you best, then just ask. Below is a list of regular rides and their description. Please check our Facebook events page for up to date info, route and schedule of all rides.

Sunday Social Ride
All cyclists are welcome to join the BCC Sunday Social Ride. Like club rides of old, with camaraderie, café and smiles. A typical Sunday Social ride may cover 35-45 miles at an average pace of 13-15mph, but don’t worry if you’re not up to speed yet we will wait, nobody gets dropped or left behind. Throughout the winter months and shorter days the rides taper off to around 30-40 miles, when the days grow longer then the rides get longer to around 40-50 miles. The rules are simple, you are responsible for yourself and your bike. Turn up, smile and have fun. Meets at 9am Buxton Opera House routes will vary, check Facebook for details.

Sunday Faster Ride
The Sunday Faster Ride is a faster club run which can vary in pace and distance depending on riders and the season. You should be experienced riding in a group and capable of maintaining 20mph on the flat, this is not a beginners ride. Pace can be quick and can average 17mph on a hilly route of around 50 miles or more. It is a no-drop ride though and will typically re-group at the top of hills. There is usually a café stop on this ride. Meet 9am Buxton Opera House. See Facebook for details and route.

Wednesday Night Ride
The Wednesday night ride is an all year round training ride of approximately 20 miles Buxton – Buxton. You should be comfortable riding in a group, this is not a beginners ride. The ride often splits into two groups, a fast group and a slow group and will average around 18mph in the fast group. The route varies depending on summer or winter and sticks together until the bottom of Long Hill where you climb at your own pace and regroup at the top. Meets 6pm Selecta Tyres, Waterswallows Rd, Buxton. Check Facebook for details.
