Buxton CC Club Rides and Training

Buxton Cycling Club runs a variety of club road rides to suit all levels of cycling ability.  Most rides feature a café or pub stop, but will run at different paces to suit individual riders’ needs.  New for 2017, each ride is categorised according to 4 levels from A (hardest) to D (easiest) to allow members to select the right ride for them. For details of the categories click here. With the exception of Cat A rides, all rides have a ‘no drop’ policy and a ride leader who ensures no-one gets left behind.

Regular club rides take place as follows:
Sunday mornings: setting off from the Edinburgh Woollen Mill shop, Buxton at 9:00. There are usually two groups: a faster Cat A or B ride which usually averages around 16mph and covers 50-60 miles; and a steady Cat B or C ride which covers around 30-35 miles in winter, 40-50 miles in summer, usually at an average speed of about 12-14mph. Unless advertised as a Cat A ride, these rides are no-drop always led by a ride leader who makes sure no-one gets left behind. There is almost always a cafe stop around half-way.
Tuesday Evening: Social Chaingand run by Graham Starkey. This is for the newer members of BCC who would like to ride better in a group. It's on a short 2.5 mile circuit near to Buxton Mineral Water. It's about learning the rules of group riding and building confidence to ride with others you may not know, not about SPEED. The ride is fairly sedate to start with but as we progress over a few weeks the speed will go up and we will become smoother when we change position. This is also open to existing members who can bring their experience as well. Meet at Selectatyre, Buxton at 6pm.

Wednesday Evening: Cat A and Cat B rides of c20 miles in length, meeting at Selectatyre, Fairfield, at 6pm
Thursday morning: Cat C ride of c30 miles with a café stop, meeting at the Edinburgh Woollen Mill shop at 9am
Thursday Evening: Ladies' Night: Any ability / confidence level welcome - also men (but you're not the priority!). Come along for the ride or come along to build up your experience. Meet at 18:00 at Selectatyre, Buxton.
Friday Evening: Cat A ride of c20 miles in length, meeting at Selecta Tyre, Fairfield, at 6pm. During spring and summer.
Friday evening (1st Friday of each month): (April to October): Occasionally on other Fridays (see Facebook Group for details). Cat D social ride of less than 20 miles, often with a café or pub stop.  Meeting at the Edinburgh Woollen Mill at 6.30pm.  Want to get out on your bike with other riders but think 30-50 miles sounds ambitious?  Worried whether you’ll keep up?  This is the place to start!
Saturday Morning Tempo Ride: Cat A ride along the A6 and A523 to Macclefield and back over the Cat and Fiddle (A537) to Buxton. Meet at 8am at the Edinburgh Woollen Mill shop. During spring and summer.
